Delta Dental of Kentucky has been working for over 40 years to provide Kentucky employees and their families with affordable dental coverage, and we're part of the largest and strongest dental health service corporation in the nation, the Delta Dental Plans Association. This Association is proud to have created and introduced the first dental benefits plan in the country more than 50 years ago. We've also built a solid reputation as a worthy and effective partner for dentists and employers.

A Brief History - Our Family Tree
Our company was founded in 1966, when members of the Kentucky Dental Association organized the Kentucky Dental Service as a not-for-profit dental service corporation.

In 1969, this corporation became part of the nationwide Delta Dental Plans Association based in Chicago, and we changed our name to Delta Dental of Kentucky.

We took another historic step forward in 1971 when our company formed an agreement with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kentucky to administer Delta Dental plans in Kentucky.

In 1993, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kentucky merged with the Indianapolis-based Associated Group which operated as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Indiana, which became Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in 1995.

Our historic day was January 1, 1997, the day when Delta Dental of Kentucky separated from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. For the first time, we became an independently run organization with our own Kentucky employees and customers.

In April 2006, we moved into our new corporate headquarters at 10100 Linn Station Road in Louisville’s east end. The seven-story Delta Dental building features 105,000 square feet, designed to foster a family-friendly work environment that enhances employee job satisfaction and productivity.

Committed to the Community
As Kentucky's oldest and largest dental insurer, Delta Dental of Kentucky continues to be a visible partner in the community. We have listed some of our community activities so that you can see the scope of what we do -- and how much we care.

"Marshall Molar" was created to promote dental health awareness to children and their parents. Marshall appears at The World's Largest Halloween Party at the Louisville Zoo and various other community events. Marshall also makes appearances at area public and private schools and pre-schools to promote good oral health practices. If you would like to arrange for Marshall Molar to appear at your school or event, please send an email with detailed information by clicking on the link below (age range for interest is pre-K through second grade; preferred audiences of approx. 100 children or more; adequate notice of approx. 3 weeks; depends on availability).

Teaching children the importance of oral health is crucial. Oral health is an important part of total wellness, and poor oral health affects the health of the entire body. That's why Delta Dental has adopted the Teeth-on-the-Go program in area schools. This unique oral health education kit teaches students about the importance of oral health and how to take care of their teeth. Two curriculums have been developed to appeal to pre-K through second grade and third through sixth grades.
